TWO STRATEGIC MINERALS PLANTS REACH MAJOR ACCIDENT-FREE MILESTONES
DANBURY, Connecticut, February 21, 2009, —
Strategic Minerals Corporation's vanadium plants in Hot Springs, Arkansas and Brits, South Africa have achieved impressive safety records in the last few years by working millions of hours without a lost-time accident. The company is part of the Evraz Group, a major mining and steel producer headquartered in Moscow.
On December 5, 2008, Strategic Minerals' plant and technology center in Arkansas reached one million hours without an accident or "lost-workday case." The last accident at Hot Springs that was recorded as a lost-workday case occurred in 2003.
Meanwhile, the Brits, South Africa plant reached two million hours without a lost-workday case on January 9, 2009. At that time, the plant had worked accident-free for about 18 months.
"This has to be one of the most outstanding safety performances in the history of our company," said Hein Enslin, President of Strategic Minerals Corporation. "We trust that everyone in the company can maintain this level of care, concern and awareness so that work does not result in injuries. Accidents not only impact the ability to work but also quality of life. That is what workplace safety is really aimed to achieve: the well being of all our workers."
Strategic Minerals produces a complete line of vanadium products for the steel, titanium, and chemical industries, including vanadium pentoxide (V2O5), ferrovanadium, Nitrovan® vanadium, vanadium-aluminum, and vanadium halides.
