EAST METALS ESTABLISHES NORTH AMERICAN SALES OFFICE FOR VANADIUM PRODUCTS
Lugano, Switzerland; April 15, 2010 —
East Metals S.A., a wholly-owned subsidiary within Evraz Group S.A., will assume global responsibility for marketing all Evraz-produced vanadium products used by the steel industry, effective April 15, 2010. North American customers will be served by a new Pittsburgh, Pa. sales office of East Metals (North America), LLC, which will utilize the sales, technical, and customer-service personnel that were part of Stratcor, Inc. -- the organization formerly responsible for marketing Evraz vanadium products to the steel industry in North America. East Metals currently serves its customers through an office in Lugano, Switzerland.
The global East Metals marketing organization will handle both Nitrovan® vanadium, the efficient vanadium-nitrogen strengthener for steel, as well as 50% and 80% ferrovanadium, widely used vanadium additions in structural and tool steels. These products are currently produced in facilities in the United States, Europe, Russia, and South Africa.
"By serving the steel industry globally through East Metals, we will better meet customer needs by having one organization handling our worldwide sourcing," said Daniel Harris, Vice President, Vanadium for Evraz Group. "At the same time, the Stratcor people who have had close working relationships with steel customers in North America will continue to serve those customers. We think that this coordination will substantially improve our ability to serve all our steel customers."
Evraz Group S.A. is a large vertically-integrated steel, mining, and vanadium business with operations in the Russian Federation, Ukraine, U.S.A., Canada, and South Africa. Since some of its steel operations process iron ore containing vanadium, the company recovers this vanadium and produces the two vanadium additions widely used by the steel industry . Nitrovan® vanadium and ferrovanadium. The company also has a large vanadium mine in South Africa. As such, Evraz Group S.A. is one of the largest vanadium producers worldwide.
